Why Labor must lead on housing

The housing crisis is the defining economic challenge of our generation. Labor YIMBY exists to ensure our party has the courage and conviction to solve it.

Push for zoning reform, density near transit, and streamlined approval so we can build homes at the speed and scale needed.

Champion well-designed medium-density housing, end restrictive zoning, and build complete neighbourhoods with shops and transport within walking distance.

Reform stamp duty, land tax, and developer charges so the tax system incentivises the construction of new housing.

We reject the false choice between protecting neighbourhood character and housing people. We can and must build more.

We follow the economics and the data. Restrictive zoning and supply constraints are the root cause of unaffordability.
